ArtistWorks review

ArtistWorks is one of the best online websites for music lessons.

They have a unique feature with their online lessons, and offer instructions on many of the less “mainstream” instruments like the violin, harmonica, and saxophone to name a few.

In a world where all types of lessons are moving online, and the teachers are being replaced with software, ArtistWorks does a great job at keeping that music teacher student relationship.

In this review I want to highlight some of the benefits that you can receive from using ArtistWorks, but I also want to highlight some alternatives which may offer some features that you might find more useful.

Here are some quick links to consider:

I still use and recommend Guitar Tricks for learning the guitar:

I recommend flowkey for a piano app if you want a quick way to learn songs:

For vocal lessons, I recommend The Superior Singing Method:

ArtistWorks is made up of various online schools.

You can find the full list of lessons on the official website here.  There are world renowned music teachers for each specific instrument.

Similar to other learning websites, there are hundreds of video lessons for each instrument, but you also have the ability to submit practice video lessons for review. It’s called their Video Exchange Learning.

What is Video Exchange Learning?

The teachers have posted hundreds of video lessons based on their life’s work, and you get access to all of them.

But with the Video Exchange feature, you can record yourself playing, upload the video, and get personal feedback.

You can watch the feedback whenever you want, and these interactions get stored in the archives. What this means is that you can watch other students getting personal lessons as well.

This is the main selling point with these lessons, and there’s nothing like it that I’m aware of.

This is by far the closest thing to real in person lessons.

Who Should Consider Using ArtistWorks?

This program takes the traditional form of music lessons, and makes them much more convenient.

Gone are the days where you actually go to music lessons (like get in your car and drive to them every week). But this Video Exchange feature really keeps that teacher student relationship alive, but in a super convenient way.

You get personal feedback, view other “students” getting feedback, all in the comfort of your own home.

So I would say that if you’re looking for that in person lesson feel, but without the commute, this is definitely for you.

It’s also worth mentioning that this is way more affordable than real in person lessons. Keep in mind you can access all the video lessons 24/7.

You can find more about specific pricing and watch some sample lessons on the official website. Click here.

My Personal Recommendations

If you’re not totally sold on how ArtistWorks is designed, and you’re looking for perhaps a bit more technology, then consider these other options.

As I mentioned in the quick links above, I still use and recommend Guitar Tricks for learning the guitar.

It’s by far the best solution for beginners in my opinion, and it has the most content out of any other website. Also, based on value for money, and ease of use, I rate it the highest.

What great is that you can actually get started with a free trial to see if you like it. Get your 14 free trial here, or watch my video review here.

For the piano, I personally like two other options.

If you’re looking to learn songs in a super easy to use and convenient app, then I recommend flowkey. You can read my full review here.

You can literally get started in minutes, and there’s basically no setup required.

If you’re looking for a program that also allows you to learn the piano through songs rather than just theory, and you want some of the best software for tracking your progress and getting feedback, then consider learning more about Playground Sessions. Read the review here.

Lastly for singers, I always recommend the singing course The Superior Singing Method. It’s so easy to use, and there’s no ongoing costs. You can read that review here.

If you play any other type of instrument, I would strongly recommend ArtistWorks because it’s by far the best option.

These are the instruments that ArtistWorks has the best lessons for:

  • Clarinet
  • Violin
  • Trumpet
  • Flute
  • French Horn
  • Mandolin
  • Harmonica
  • Cello
  • Ukulele
