You to Learn This Instrument

The dashboard for learning with flowkeyIf you're looking to improve your piano playing skills, then you've found the right website.

You've stumbled on the best tools to help you learn piano, and in a few short weeks, your skills can improve dramatically.

If you stay committed and follow through with some of the recommendations below, it's literally impossible not to get better.

So what's the key to becoming a better player? It's proper instruction, mixed with practice.

That's the SECRET. It's really that simple.

The thing is, you have the power to practice and you're 100% responsible for that. You absolutely can't be good at anything without practicing.

However, you're NOT responsible for proper instruction. You CAN'T teach yourself how to play. It just takes way too long and it's time you just don't have.

You need to FIND the proper instruction, program, and tool, and that's what I've done for you.

The number 3 pick is ideal if you want that in-person touch, as they have a video exchange feature that lets you get personal feedback.

If you're not into all the software stuff, and want the cheapest option, number 4 is for you.

Yes there are more options, but these are by far the top choices.

1. Playground Sessions

playground sessions box imagePlayground Sessions is the best tool and software for beginners to advanced piano players.

If you want to learn the piano with a program that is in line with today's technology, this is it!

What separates it from other programs is the ability to learn the piano through playing your favourite songs.

It's recommended for those who are just starting out, however it's also a great program for anyone who's already playing the piano, and who just wants to enhance their playing skills.

The program is set up in 3 different level categories, and there are different levels within those, making all the lessons applicable to anyone.

The software allows you to play and learn your favourite songs, understand music theory, and watch video lessons from an awesome teacher.

You can access the lessons anytime you want, and the program is built in with a feedback and scoring system which helps with your progress. So it has that game aspect, while at the same time real in-person video lessons and learning.

This is better than any app, or music learning website. It's really the only tool you need to start improving your playing skills.

  • This is for EVERYONE

The lessons are designed for all skill levels. Whether you’re just starting out, or you’ve been taking lessons for years, you will benefit from this program.

  • Do I Need the Internet to Play?

You need to first download the software on your PC or Mac. You also need to be hooked up to the internet to download any songs or lessons, and participate in the online community. However, once you download a song or lesson, you DON’T need to be online to use the software.

  • What Kind of Piano Do I Need?

You can use this program with a keyboard or a traditional piano. You only need a computer to access the video lessons and songs. From there you can play and practice on any type of piano. In order to get instant feedback as you play, you will need a keyboard with a USB or midi connection, but the core program and lessons can be used on any “type” of piano.

Why I Recommend This So Much

playground sessions logoThe reason I recommend this over ALL the other similar software, programs, and tools, is because it's the most complete program and one that helps you learn the most, in my opinion.

Recently there has been a boom in apps which are designed to help you learn music. Some of them are great, and super convenient, however they lose that in person lesson feel.

After using them for quite some time, I found myself memorizing how to "play a game" and use the app, as opposed to really learning the piano or whatever instrument.

Playground Sessions has that fun aspect that many other apps have, however it also has the proper learning component with real video lessons.

For me, it's the best of both worlds, and I highly recommend it.

2. flowkey

flowkey logo

This is the best piano app in my opinion.

The reason I rate it so highly as an app, is because you can literally get started in minutes. No wires or cables are needed. There's virtually no setup.

That's what an app is supposed to do. You sign up, and you start learning the piano. It's really that easy.

But what makes flowkey great is that it's different than many other apps like Yousician for example. It's not a game. There's no point system. It's simply a very easy way to start learning piano songs.

The reason I don't rate it as number 1, is because Playground Sessions is a more advanced program. Their software is ahead of the game.

But I've labeled flowkey as the best app because of how quick and easy it is to get started. It may not have as an impressive scoring system or interactive dashboard when compared to Playground Sessions, but it has virtually no setup time, and a very easy to use interface.

  • Easiest Program to Use

What I love about flowkey is that it’s so easy to use. You literally sign up for a free account, and you can start learning in minutes. There’s no required setup.

  • Large Library of Songs

flowkey’s main feature is to teach you the piano through songs. There are over 500 songs you can start learning right away. From popular genres of music to movie soundtracks. If you want to learn specific songs, this is recommended.

  • Simple Way to Learn

I know I’ve said this a few times, but I found flowkey so easy to use. The interactive way you learn is very simple and effective. You can practice in different modes, and flowkey listens to you play.

  • Free Trial with No Setup

One of the best parts about this learning tools is that you can get started for free. flowkey allows you to start a free trial, and see if you like the program. If you do, then you can sign up for one of their affordable membership plans. It takes a few minutes to try and test out.

3. ArtistWorks

artistworks logoArtistWorks offers lessons that are the closest thing to real lessons.

These days piano software is really the most popular way to learn online, however many people still like the personal touch offered by these lessons at ArtistWorks.

So there's no scoring system, or software that keeps track of your progress.

The format here is a large library of video lessons, with a special twist.

You can submit your own video for personal feedback, and see other students receive feedback as well. It's what they call Video Exchange Learning.

  • Great Personal Feel

More of a personal touch with these online video lessons. You have the option of getting personal feedback as well.

  • 3 Types of Lessons

At the moment, there are 3 teachers who teach Jazz, Popular, and Classical piano. This might change from time to time as new instructors are brought onboard.

  • Lessons Cover Everything

All piano teachers have lessons within their courses that cover the fundamentals, and advanced learning techniques. You get access to all the lessons from a given teacher, and can work at your own pace.

  • Sample Videos Available

The website is set up to allow you to see some sample lessons, and get a full breakdown of what you get. Each teacher has their lessons laid out for you to see, along with some sample video demonstrations. It’s worth checking out.

4. Piano For All

Piano LessonsThe piano tutorial and program called Piano For All has been one of the most comprehensive courses for a long time.

It is a very resourceful website on keyboard lessons.

It is packed with ebooks, video lessons, audio lessons, and they're all compatible with any device you have such as PC, Mac, iPhone and iPad.

The best thing about this program is the hundreds of testimonials of REAL people who have succeeded with it.

The reason why I don't recommend it higher is that there's no real advanced technology.

Piano For All is recommended based on its ease of use, and all the great feedback it has received.

Its main benefit is that it is very basic, and easy to use. If you're not very tech savvy, but still want to learn the piano at home, this is for you.
