If you’re looking to get back into drumming, or you’re looking for some online lessons, you’ve probably heard of Drumeo.
There’s no doubt about it, this is a very impressive learning website and platform.
But is it right for you, and should you consider trying it risk free?
I’m hoping to give you an overview to help you make that decision.
However, as most people will learn, there’s no real harm in trying it risk free anyways.
Enter Drumeo
First I’d like to state that with all these online learning programs, you will get people who rave about them, and also a lot of haters.
That’s just the way it works, especially here on the internet. You’ll run into a lot of fans, but also die hard drummers who will tell you to go out and get a real drumming coach. For some that’s an option, but for most, it’s not.
That’s really where the first benefit of Drumeo comes in. You get access to instructional videos and lessons, 24/7, and you don’t need to leave your home.
You pay a monthly fee that probably adds up to the gas money you would spend driving to a drumming coach.
It’s so convenient, that I scratch my head when people don’t even consider testing their 7 day free trial.
What Does it Offer?
- Step by step curriculum
- Unlimited access
- Daily live lessons
- Huge library of video lessons
- Community support
- Free trial
- Money back guarantee
How it Works
This isn’t a physical product.
You don’t buy a DVD set of drum instructions.
This is a membership. It’s an online membership to a website which hosts tons of drumming lessons and content.
You pay a monthly fee to have access to this membership and study the material anytime you want.
Here are two videos which give a nice quick overview:
Drumeo has a long history of teaching people how to improve on the drums. They've educated students for well over a decade now.
The membership you sign up for is called Drumeo Edge. There is so much content with this program, and it's all laid out nicely. You will never run out of material.
Like the video outlines, you get a huge lesson library from all the pre recorded lessons, and access to the new live lessons. They actually have built in courses that allow you to track your progress as well, as opposed to just watching videos.
A big advantage is that you will know what to practice, and how to progress. Students find they have that accountability while using this course, and that leads to more drumming, and ultimately better results.
You can learn with the program by watching, listening, and doing (play along lessons). You can download the lesson MP3s and all the lessons are recorded in HD videos.
The live lessons are actually interactive, so you can correspond with the instructor. There's also a library of play along songs with the drums removed.
Based on all the features and everything you get with this membership, it's really one of a kind.
What are Students Saying?
There have been countless comments on how students love the community and the ability to interact with other drummers, but also just how convenient it is to have all the resources in one place.
What's so important for improving on the drums, and any type of instrument is tracking your progress, and students really like this feature a lot.
Online Lessons vs. In-Person
So many people are hesitant because they don't think they can get good instruction online, when compared to real face to face in-person lessons.
You're never going to replace that, but Drumeo, and the advancements in technology are getting extremely close. When you add up all the extra things Drumeo does compared to meeting with an in-person coach, you start to see the real value in a membership and online community like this.
If you want to get better on the drums, this is definitely a great solution for you.
What People Don't Like
Drumeo is set up to allow you to actually try the program before you buy.
So technically you have nothing to lose. Yes they ask for your credit card, but that's just standard with these membership sites. You can literally sign up, cancel that same day, and use the program for 7 days.
But some people don't want to pay, and that's one thing they don't like.
If you have an issue with paying a monthly fee, Drumeo is probably not right for you. But it's still worth trying in case you change your mind.
Some of the live lessons can be long, and you might not be able to watch, or at least watch the whole thing. You might also find that the questions asked during the live lessons don't interest you.
Lastly, the only real downfall is that you need a computer to access the material.
